Myles de Bastion | President
Myles de Bastion, CymaSpace founder, is a User Interaction & Product Designer, Artistic Director, Musician and Creative-Altruist. Born with a progressive hearing loss, he develops cymatic technology and art installations that enable sound to be experienced as light, motion and vibration. His work has appeared in the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry, Portland Art Museum and on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show. Myles has designed and built large scale installations for music festivals and Grammy-award winning jazz artist Esperanza Spalding. Myles lives in Portland with his partner, Kim. They have two children, Juniper and Zebra.
Andre Gray | Independent Filmmaker
Andre Gray is an independent filmmaker POC who resides in Portland, Oregon. Born Deaf and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended the National Institute for the Deaf also known as Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. During his stay he studied graphic communication while engaging with various social organizations and committees. Andre postsecondary education ended immediately after the 9/11 attack. He returned to Indianapolis as a residential educator for deaf students. He became a coach for wrestling and track. Mr. Gray resigned after five years and 3 championship titles. He relocated to Austin Texas, where he was employed by Texas School for the deaf as a residential educator, relief staff, and wrestling coach.
Andre relocated to Oregon where he continued to work as a residential supervisor.
In 2016 Andre learned that he has already lost 12.5 percent of his vision which propelled him to start a streaming concept called the Beyond Tone project. His goal is to create a platform where the Deaf community can enjoy content, advertisement, news and interest all displayed in Sign Language. Andre Gray has produced documentaries, mini doc stories, and short films and corroborates with a number of regional and nationally-known Deaf artists.
Chris Balduc | Development Director/Grant Writer
Chris guides and advises the CymaSpace organization, raises funds through our foundations, and oversees the Access Program with Carla Ring. Deaf since age 13, Chris worked as a freelance production artist, art director, and a certified technical draftsman. Chris attended California State University, Northridge, earning his BA in English in 1993 and an MA in Special Education in 1996. He went on to manage and instruct a self-contained Deaf and Hard of Hearing middle school program in Ventura, California from 1996-2006.
In the northwest, Chris involved himself with social work. He was a supervisor at Washington School for the Deaf. He was an advocate/case manager for Washington State Deaf Services and a case worker/event coordinator at DeafVibes, a nonprofit organization specializing in placement of Deaf people in educational settings.
Chris leads the First Thursday Gallery Walk, a DHH-inclusive art appreciation group that meets in the Portland Pearl District. He is also a docent at Portland Art Museum. He has a passion to advocate for Disabled people in the arts both within and outside of the Disability community.
Carla Baker | Access Coordinator
Deaf entrepreneur, studied Organizational Psychology & Evolution Anthropology.
After opening Stellar Communication Interpreting and Captioning Services LLC, she then found CymaSpace a Deaf/ HH lead Art/ Cultural and Technology Organization. There she became staff and joined the team!
Over the years Carla has assisted in building the Access Program for Arts and Cultural Accessibility within CymaSpace. She continues to run the Access program in partnership with CymaSpace and Stellar to this day.
Mayan Fogarty | Technician
Engaged, focused, and always ready to learn. I am willing to take on new projects that may be out of the scope of my normal work duties to better assist my company.
My experience includes working in small and large environments with varied technologies. I work well in teams and by myself.
I hope to further my knowledge of system administration and break into the cloud/virtualization technologies while helping my team succeed.
As a Hard of Hearing individual I can bring diversity to your business. Raised orally, sign language is my second language. I can be helpful to clients that need assistance. Although I have a hearing loss which requires me to wear a hearing aid, which I only wear one on my right side it helps amplify my hearing to a normal range of hearing. If I am using the phone it is best for me to use the speaker.
Specialties: Building desktops, troubleshooting, replacing/ upgrading hardware, installation, server and maintenance.
Susan Anderson | Bookkeeper, Stagehand
Susan Anderson is a valuable assist in her dual roles as company bookkeeper and stagehand for our productions. Susan is very active in the Deaf community and has a keen interest in technology that can benefit Deaf people. Susan travels with the support crew on location to set up sound and light equipment at venues.
