Following the inauguration of the CymaStudios project (a multi-sensory recording studio) that featured Portland’s own shoegaze-pop group Coloring Electric Like, Cymaspace is at it again with a new project dubbed “The Cymatic Experience”. The goal of CX is to capture live performances from local artists incorporating sound-reactive (Cymatic) art into their music videos.
Cymaspace is kicking off CX with the debut album release of local avant-garde songwriter and musician, James “Strange” Chan. The album Human Initiation features authorized reworkings of original artwork by James Warhola (nephew of Andy Warhol) who created the iconic sci-fi cover artwork for Stranger In A Strange Land and Neuromancer. The album is produced by Riley Geare of internationally acclaimed group Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Riley plays keys, bass, and drums on the album, engineering an impressive revival of retro music styles. Dystopian electronic soundscapes and beats composed by 16-bit PDX musician Gizmopunk complete the soulful cyberdelic adventure that is Human Initiation. Don’t miss this!
